Ref: 927 - £29,853 to £35,646 per annum, depending on skills and abilities)
Fixed term to 30 September 2012, with the possibility of renewal dependent on funding.
Start date: 1 October 2010
Applications are invited for a Linux System Administrator position in the Experimental Particle Physics group (www.sussex.ac.uk/epp) within the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sussex, in order to support the group's fast-growing computing needs. In particular, a local Grid-Tier3 at Sussex is expected to be established over the summer, and the new person will be instrumental to the successful integration of this new facilty within an existing local Linux cluster and, more broadly, within the infrastructure provided by GridPP.
Information Technology Computer Careers and Jobs 2010. He or she will be involved in the specification, purchasing, installation and maintenance of any further required computing hardware for EPP, as well as the installation and maintenance of any associated software, including for Grid use. He/she will identify optimal solutions for the system by liaising with existing technical personnel within the Department and the Sussex Information and Technology Services (ITS), as well as with external Grid experts.
He/she will work alongside another system administrator within the Department. The new system administrator will also be expected to contribute actively to the long term development of the computing strategy of the Sussex EPP group.
The post is funded from 01/10/2010 until 30/09/2012, with the possibility of renewal thereafter subject to funding.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
